stabbed one of the Colored men named Pierce in the back, making a gash 3 or 4 inches long, and according to the Doctors testimony (a rebel) 1½ inches deep.  The facts were so clearly proven that the Commonwealth's attorney an ex-rebel had to ask for a verdict and the honorable Court sent the ex-reb Benson to jail for the enormous space of one hour and fined him Fifty dollars.
