obtained from Major General Schofield many judgments (which might otherwise be rendered against them) be rendered in favor of Freedmen.

Most of the colored people are unable to employ an Attorney at Law and to suggest to them questions to be put to a witness - only confuses the proceedings.  Hence under the paragraph alluded to above Agents are obliged to be silent spectators to wrong judgments in many cases with only the remedy of reporting it to a Military Commissioner.
