having good crops and of making some little savings the present year. But few idlers are to be seen, and literally no intemperance among them — yet the old habit of taking a dram is indulged in by many.

In the 1st Division there has been one day school, the teachers of which were Mrs Stoutenburg and Daughter. There is one Sunday school in this Division, numbering about Two hundred and fifty scholars.

In the 2nd Division there are three day schools, Bowling Green. Reedy Church and Port Royal, the two former have white teachers. the latter Colored. Two Sunday schools in this Division well attended.

In the 6th Division there are no day schools, one sabbath school. As before reported the Freedmen are endeavoring to establish and support schools, but with thier limited pecuniary means, together with the opposition of the whites, they find it uphill work — thier progress slow in this direction.
