Tappahannock, Essex Co. Va. July 30. 1868.

Bvt. Brig. Genl. O. Brown.
Asst. Com'r. Dist. of Va.

General:
I have the honor to apply for Leave of Absence of twenty-five (25) days to commence August 15, 1868 for the purpose of visiting Erie Penn'a.

My reasons for making this request is that I have been sick for nearly two months and this is a very sickly place during the months of Aug. & Sept. and I am fearful of being much worse than I am. I have been stationed here since February 6, 1866 and have not had a leave of absence during that time.

Very Respectfully Your Obt. Servt.
