had also had difficulties with the murdered man, and it was that he says that prompted them to induce him to commit the murder, he further states that one of the parties (Ned Neighbors) agreed to pay him fifty (50) dollars for the commission of the act, and the other (John Stone) he says agreed to make a loom for his Wife for nothing, if he suceeded in his undertaking. I have watched the conduct of the prisoner since January 1868, and I think that he is not entirely in his right mind. On several occasions he has sent for me to visit him in Jail and several times expressed his willingness to leave the county if they would but let him out, as he thought that he had been in there long enough. I also have the honor to state that I have already forwarded a petition to his Excellency Governor Wells for the purpose of having his sentence commuted if possible.
