Office of A.S.A. Com'r 3rd Div 6th Sub. Dist. Va.
Tappahannock Essex L. Va. May 13. 1868.

Col. James Johnson
Sub. Asst. Com'r.

Sir;
I have the honor to request that the Bureau R.F. & A.L. appropriate the sum of $100.00, to finish building a school-house in Essex County. - This building was commenced last year by the colored people and they were obliged to stop on account of not having means; they will be obliged to abandon it altogether unless they receive assistance. There can be at least fifty scholars taught in this school and at present there is not a school within twelve miles of the place.

Very Respectfully, Your obt. servt.
Watson R. Wentworth
A.S.A. Com'r.
