Respectfully forwarded "Approved" A school is now in operation in this room taught by two colored women, competent to teach in the primary branches,- and who are not able to incur the expense of rent without much sacrifice.- This school is the only one in this place. I have made considerable effort to get up an interest among the leading colored people here,- to the extent of having an experienced teacher employed and provision made for his support, have attended once at their church at an appointed meeting by its Pastor,- but failed to get a concert of action, among them.

"over"

In fact so little interest has been taken in education, that a full meeting cannot be had. They having had a free school for the past three years,- seem loth to support a teacher - seem to feel that it is their due to have teachers supplied them, without the least effort upon their part.
