General,
I have the honor to request - in behalf of the Colored people of Fredericksburg - that an appropriation of Four hundred ($400.) Dollars be made by the Bureau. for the purpose of repairing and fiting [[fitting]] up the basement of the Baptist Church. (col'd) in this place. said basement to be used for schools.

The upper room of said Church has, for the past three years, been used for school purposes - but the trustees having had it lately repaired - new Pews added - declined to have it again occupied except for church meetings.

There is no building suitable for a school to be had in this place.

From information received, a teacher would be sent here by the new school -
