It is reported that there is a large number of small pox cases at Portsmouth that are not provided for either by the City or Bureau Authorities. The Asst. Commr. directs that you take immediate steps to ascertain, whether this report is true; and if found to be correct, you will adopt such measures, as are necessary, to provide for those now sick, and to prevent the spread of the disease.
