The Asst. Comr. directs that you forward to these Head Quarters the names of three (3) residents of the Counties of Accomac and Northampton, that can take the oath prescribed in the act of Congress approved July 2nd 1862, and who are capable, and willing to act on a court under the authority of this Bureau, to hear and determine such cases as may be brought before them by the Freedmen of said Counties.

In reply to your papers relating to a school house at Lexington, I have the honor to inform you that while the Bureau cannot itself erect school-houses it can rent them. If your Association will provide the necessary buildings for school purposes, at Lexington, They will be rented at a reasonable rate by the Bureau.

Supt. to provide for the freedmen Toby Roane and family, so far as their necessities require, and to surrender to the owner the premises, possession of which was lately adjudicated upon by the County Court of Essex County in the case of Parker and Roane. Lieut. Wentworth will notify this office of this action in this case.
