Bureau Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands,
HEADQUATRERS 10th SUB-DISTRICT OF VIRGINIA.
Alexandria, Va., March 13th 1868

Bvt. Brig. Genl. O. Brown
Bureau R.F. and A. Lands
Richmond Va.

General:
I have the honor to request that the salary of Messrs George N. Smith and John Raeburn Clerks in this office be increased to $100.00 a month. These gentlemen have been employed in the Bureau for a long time and are very proficient in the business thereof, they are steady and reliable working assiduously during office hours, and often do over-work which is necessary to keep the records of this office in complete and perfect order. They have been paid heretofore but $75. per month a sum which is not sufficient to support their families, and I would respectfully recommend the increase in their salaries asked for to date from March 1st 1868.

Mr. De Putron my other clerk who receives a salary of $100. per month is constantly engaged on Military Commission and Registration business.

I am General
Very Respectfully

over.
