A large number of the colored people in my immediate neighborhood have requested me to apply to you for assistance to build a schoolhouse.  I suppose an acre of land and the building sufficiently large to accomodate fifty children, would cost upwards of five hundred dollars.  Of this amount one hundred and ninety three dollars have been subscribed.  If you can aid them to the amount of two hundred or two hundred and fifty dollars the balance can be raised for them
