At the Court before which Woddell was acquitted he repeated almost word for word the above statement. The only places that he differed were (1) He stated that he only plowed a few feet from where he was when he first saw Woddell strike him over the shoulder with the hoe (2) He stated that he was going to see Massa Robert about those tales (3) His answer before the Court was He said they were tales that he did not use the word lies He also testified that these tales originated from a remark made by Woddell about his two horses that Henry and himself were working, "that the keeping of the horses had not cost them" (Henry & Gabriel) ten (10) cents in two months" and it was this that Henry was going to see Massa Robert about, also that they (Henry and himself) were working a crop upon shares on the lands of Mrs Boling, that the potatoe patch spoken of was Mr Woddells.
