I have the honor to report you the case of Nelson Rosser "cold." v.s. Morton Roberts cold, and others for assault and false imprisonment in which the damages sued for was $10.000.00. This was almost entirely a political case. I will rehearse you the particulars of it as I learned them from hearing the parties testify at the trial and from enquiries I made myself. Nelson Rosser - cold - a member of the Union League was reported to some of the members as telling its secrets to those whom he should not. The League desirous of getting at the truth of these reports asked Nelson Rosser to attend the next meeting, to explain what was the foundation of this report; which he did not, The League then designated two members to wait on Nelson Rosser and bring him, which they did, using no harsher means than telling him that they were sent after him; that reports had been made
