which they wanted cleared up. They used no harsh means, none was required none was intended as the case itself will show. The League hearing his case at first decided to expel him from their body. Nelson Rosser asked them not - any other punishment he would take and proposed to take a certain number of stripes. The League said he should have his choice - and took him into the anteroom and tied his hands, as though about to whip him sure enough. His hands very loosely tied only remained so for a few minutes. They did not whip him, and in a few minutes admitted him to full fellowship, and all parties went home well satisfied. Some two weeks after this the conservatives getting hold of what had happened (through Nelson as he is generally remarked weak minded) urged him to sue for damages. The case was tried at Campbell County Court August term. The case when called from the docket was so hurried through that while I notified the defendants to come into Court the greater part of the evidence was given (they not farther away than the Court green). The witnesses on the part of the prosecution had scarcely closed their mouths, after reciting their evidence before the Jury was told to retire
