In reply to your communication of the 19th inst. I have the honor to report that Mr. J.C. De Putron has been tendered the place as clerk at Hd-Qrs 8th Sub-Dist. Wytheville, Va. which he respectfully declines for the following reasons; That the engagement is only temporary and would not justify the removal of his family to that place; That it would take him from his family who reside on a farm in the country; and would force him to leave his wife alone in the country without any person at the house bur servants; That it would interfere with his farming arrangements which are pressing at this time; That he is about making
