Joseph Travel being duly sworn deposes & says that on Monday night on or about May 18th 1868 I was at my sister's (Mrs Geo. Rye) and was returning home about 12 o'clock midnight - When I arrived opposite the Court House I saw a bonfire composed of kerosene barrels. Passing on and when nearly in front of Neels Hotel I saw three young men with the flag pole on their shoulders going to the bonfire and lay the pole upon the fire. I cannot swear who the three men were. When the pole was laid on the fire the following persons were standing around the fire laughing and cheering - viz Chas Walsh Geo. G. Ott. Wm Arther, Eresmus Haas and Harrison Gillick Saml Rodeffer sat on a fence close by the fire singing "down with the proud Union flag" There were many other persons present whom I did not recognise
