conduct themselves well & thereby incurred the displeasure of the murdered man their step father &c - Steps will be taken to ascertain if these girls do not know more than they have told 

I can cheerfully vouch for the statements made by Mr Menifee in his letter of the 19th inst  I shall cooperate with the authorities in this matter & render all the aid in my power toward apprehending bringing to trial & punishment the authors of such a fiendish outrage. 

I should have made this special report sooner but that I have been trying to get at more definite particulars and to learn who were the guilty parties. 

I will apprise you of the further results of our investigation of this case as soon as anything new occurs.
