Bureau R.F. and A.L.
Off. A.S.A.C. 1st and 3d Div'ns 4th S.D. Va.
Gordonsville Nov. 6th 1868

General:

I have the honor respectfully to ask for twenty days leave of absence for the purpose of attending to pressing private business that I can not well defer till January. Maj. Morse here, and Capt. Town at Charlottsville have kindly agreed to attend to all urgent official business for me for twenty days.

In making this request I will say that I have not been absent from the State on leave since I entered it in the Bureau service in 1865. I hope twenty days will be given me if possible.

Very Respectfully
Your Obt. Servant
