General:
The peculiar circumstances in which I am placed renders it necessary that I should again appeal to you for employment. Since my discharge in October last I have applied to many parties who had employment to give but owing to my past connection with the Government and because I allied myself with the Union case I have on every occasion been refused. Could I have obtained anything to do outside of the Govt. I would not have again applied to you for help, but as I been proscribed and refused employment simply because I have been loyal to the Govt. I deem it but just that I should receive some help to save myself and family from starvation. Though I was discharged because I had not been in the Army, yet I am placed in a worse position than those who have been for even the most bitter revel will employ a discharged Union soldier in preference to myself.
