Virginia State Convention
Jany 27th 1868
Genl. O. Brown!
Beurow of R. F. & A. B.

Sir,
I beg leave to call your attention and make a few Statements of some facts in relation to Freedmans Affairs in the Counties which I have the Honor to represent in this Convention.

The course persued by Lieut. E. G. Busby in the late Elections has distroyed his influence for good, and the people, for whos good he is expected to defend and protect have lost all confidence in him.

Some time previous to the late Election he enquired of me if I intended to be a Candidate for the Convention, saying the conservatives were very fearful that I would [[strikethrough]] be [[/strikethrough]] and if I dit, they intended to run a collored man as a candidate, in ordre to defeat my election by tryed to divide the colored vote, and advised me, not to consent to run, and remarked that the time would come when he would accept an Office, and would get anny Office he wished, and could get half of the white and all the colored vote, but he dit not wish to give up his present position for Delegate to the Covention; I replyed that I dit not wish, not dit I consider myself competent for the Position.

After the Election was ordered, the Republicans called a delegated convention of four persons from each District, and a Mass Ratification meeting one week
