Respectfully returned to Bt. Lt. Col Jacob F Chur A.A.A.G

James Ramsour (Colored) has twice fixed the time when he would pay the amount due E Smith. but invariably excused himself for not doing so by not being able to raise the amount. the last time he stated that he had obtained Employment for the balance of this year, but would not have the money to pay this account until the expiration of the year, when he would pay the account. He is at present absent from this place for a few days, when he returns, further efforts will be made to get part if not all the amount. Ramseur has not been able to obtain work at his trade until recently, he has a large family & nothing but his labor to depend upon for a support. I believe he will pay the amount as soon as he can.
