prove an alibi was, I am informed, made at the trial by producing several witnesses (whose wherabouts after diligent inquiry I have been unable to discover) but as I am credibly informed by Revd. Mr Lewis and others was regarded as a failure, the witnesses [[strikethrough]] having [[/strikethrough]] in their testimony having contradicted one another which I am further inclined to believe from the fact that the friends of Pear show so little interest in ascertaining their whereabouts. This report has been delayed by the efforts which I have made to find these witnesses,
