Bureau Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands,
Head Quarters 1st Sub-District, Va.
Norfolk, Va., August 8th 1868

Brvt. Brig. Genl. O. Brown
Asst. Comr. Bureau R.F & A Lands
Richmond Va.
Genl.
Having made the necessary enquiries in reference to the reported absence of the Bureau Agent from the meeting at Kemperville on, the 29th ult., referred to in your communication of the 3rd inst. I have the honor to state that the information furnished you is incorrect. Major Croft, the Bureau Agent, was not only present but as I am informed was instrumental in presenting the, threatened disturbance, the report sent you to, the contrary was probably from some who left Kemperville early in the day, before the arrival of Major Croft.
Very respectfully
Your obdt Servant
