when it is known that there are papers which would be evidence. Thus I was left open to the implication of suppressing or misrepresenting the facts; and I am now ordered, in no very pleasant way, to produce the endorsement I made to Mrs. Johnson. Fortunately I got it yesterday of Mr. Johnson together with a letter from Mrs. Johnson which will clear up the original matter; but I require either an answer to this from you (which I can forward with a copy of this) or else the two letters I have heretofore sent you, to show that I have acted honorably and promptly in my duty in the whole affair. I trust you will be good enough to merely do me justice in this respect one way or the other.
