Joseph Robinson Sworn. On the day of the election I met two colored men at Dublin Depot. The one had a double barrel Gun, the other a musket — they had been out Shooting Squirrels, only had shot one when they came into Dublin. Was not acquainted with them. never met them before. The colored people are not armed to my knowledge: A few of them have old muskets, left with them at the close of the war. Some-time back I purchased a Small Pocket Pistol, had it but a few weeks, when I returned it not having the money to spare to pay for it.

Charles Ford Sworn. On election day I saw a man with a musket and a Squirrel at Dublin Depot — Also near Newbern, Pulaski Co. met parties, both white and colored, who had been out hunting. Do not know of any colored men being armed in the vicinity — Some may have old muskets which were left in their charge after the Surrender, and a few of them probably have Pistols.

After receiving the testimony of the foregoing witnesses I investigated certain charges made against a colored man named Sheppard Stiggell — in which it was reported, that he had been drilling his comrades a short distance from the depot.
