And Gen. A. not only investigates & reports, but says that he has furnished all the evidence to be had.

Your subordinate, then, has done the whole of his ministerial duty - for it is ministerial wholly, not judicial - and the case now stands before you with al the data for your action.

Now, when Gen. A. has furnished to you all the evidence to be had, and laid before you absolute data for an audit & settlement, why limit the case to him, subjecting me to a delay not allowed by my pressing necessities? A single day's delay, I assure you, distresses me.
