My Dear Sir,
Some time last summer I presented a claim for a large quantity of wood, so much as I could show had been appropriated by the freedmen. The papers were sent to your office, thence to Gen Armstrong, and by him returned to your Head Quarters in Richmond. The claim was abandoned, on the ground that the general claim for fuel was a claim against the Gov't. & not the Bureau.

Among the papers, was a paper prepared & signed by Gen. Butler, and endorsed
