Dear sir:
On the 30th of Nov. I forwarded through SubDist. Hd. Qrs. the petition in favor of Polly Jennings (col'd) sentenced to be hung on the 18th of Dec for the murder of her infant child. As the day of execution is near at hand - one week - I would most earnestly urge the importance of an immediate decision in the case by Gov. Wells, and would ask you to give it personal attention and if the sentence is commuted, to send word to that effect so that in case the Governor's Letter failed in reaching here that your information might save her life.

Her case is similar to the "Griffin" decision in the Circuit Court, and under that decision the Gov. ought to stay execution. An additional reason is that one of the Jurors who brought in the verdict of guilty, also acted on the Grand Jury that
