The citizens seem earnest in their denunciation of the outrage on Mr Taylor
I said to the Commonwealth Attorney "If you feel them why do you not endeavor to punish the perpetrators,"  He replied "for the same reason that we do not punish those who burned our churches; there is no evidence against anyone" The leading magistrate of the neighborhood, in reply to a similar interrogatory said "Mr Taylor came to me but would not name any one as guilty of the outrage; he stated that he was not certain of their identity, and as he has absented himself, and is not at home in the Nurth, tis of course impossible to prosecute anyone"
