Sir,
The undersigned subscribers to this Petition, Citizens of the town of Farmville, and the surrounding counties: respectfully beg leave to represent. That they have heared with regret, the contemplated purpose of your Department to transfer Col John W. Jordan, from this Post, to the town of Staunton, Va. Col Jordan has occupied his position here, several years, and while your petitioners are not in a position to appreciate the need, or value of his service in Staunton; we do know; and appreciate the promptness and fidelity with which he has discharged the important and delicate duties of his office during the entire period of his incumbency here. 

Without intending to disparage his predecessors in Office; we can sincerely and truthfully say; that Col Jordan from his familiarity with all the duties and details of his trust: from his intimate acquaintance with the people of this Sub-District, both white and colored, from his knowledge of their wants and needs; from the energy and skill with which he has uniformly reconciled, redressed, and arranged their grievances; and the Justness and impartiality with which he has executed all his duties: irrespective of Race or Color; he has given infinitely more satisfaction, than any one who has occupied his position in this community. 

Your petitioners do not believe that any new officer who must necessarily lack Col Jordans acquaintance with the people, and his knowledge of their condition: can either so
