For, General O. Brown,
Chief of Bureau R, F & A. Lands, &c
District No 1- Richmond
Va.

Sir,

The subscribers to this Petition; Colored Citizens of the Town of Farmville, and the the adjacent Counties; beg lease to state, that they have heared with regret, the contemplated transfer of Col John. W. Jordan from this Place, to some other Post in the Valley of Virginia.

Your petitioners beg lease to state, that Col Jordan has been at this Post long enough to become well acquainted with us and our wants; and we believe, that he now, by reason of that intimate acquaintance, is better prepared to serve our own; and the interests of your Department: than could any new Officer, however great his qualifications, or commanding his Talents.

It is due to truth, and is but simple Justice to Col Jordan, that we should say; that since he has been on duty at this Post, he has been a most industrious and energetic Officer and so far as we are advised, that he has discharged with fidelity to us and to the Government, the important, and responsible trusts committed to him. For these and other strong reasons which we could urge, if opportunity were allowed; we beg to ask that no change may be made; but that Col Jordan and his subordinate Officers be retained in Office at Farmville. And your Petitioners will ever pray to do -

over---.
