After we were released from prison i went to the Freedmens Agent and asked him if he would see to it for me and he told me he had nothing to do with it then I told him if he could not i would write to you.  in reply he said he would see about it.  and as the time is near at hand when we shall be compelled to pay the above named sum we your humble servants respectfully pray your kindness to order something to be done in behalf of justice toward us.  we are poor having been in the union army and turned off from our former master upon the world, and are today trying to make a living for our
selves and to be called on to pay $100 (unjustly) for something we have
