The Commonwealth of Virginia 

To the Sheriff of Gloucester County, 

Greeting: We command you, that of the Goods and chattels of Baylor Thornton (Coloured) late in your bailiwick, you cause to be made the Sum of fifty dollars - Which we lately in our County Court of Gloucester County have recovered against the said Baylor Thornton for a fine imposed on him for an assault and Battery committed on one John H. Tabb - Also ten dollars and Seventy eight cents - which to us - in the Same Court were adjudged for our costs, by us about our suit in that behalf expended; where of the said Baylor Thornton is - convict as appears to us of record; and that you have the same at the Rules at the Clerks Office of our said Court, on the first monday in August next to Satisfy us - the fine - and costs aforesaid. And have then there this writ 
Witness. John Thawby Clerk of our Said Court, at, the Courthouse, the 19th day of June 1868, and in the 92nd year of the Commonwealth
