The man at the time was a little intoxicated, but it only shows the deep seated hatred toward those who are opposed to them politically.

Mr Goodrich who they assure need not apprehend danger, is on duty here, in the US Revenue Dept., and has identified himself with the unreconstructed element of the South - hence his exception. Capt. Peoples has been relieved from duty at Christiansburg, and Mr Jackson has not been stationed here.
