Captain

I have the honor to ask permission to hire a building of one room for school purposes in Grayson Co. near Elk Creek of Samuel M. Fulton, rent to be $15. a month & to commence October 1st 1868.

This building is on land belonging of course to the above named Fulton is an uncommonly good one 20 x 24 feet.
This appropriation with what the negroes can raise will enable me, through the good will of the owner Mr Fulton to purchase the land on which the building stands & deed it to the school Trustees in Trust For this reason I am anxious to have the appropriation extended back. After the land is bought I think the negroes will be able to purchase the building & then we can pay them (the Trustees) a reduced rent to go toward the support of the Teacher. A less rent will entirely defeat the attempt

I am Captain Very Respectfully Your Ob Servant
