On the 27th of last September a communication was addressed to you from these Head Quarters enclosing letters to Samuel Ellis and Thaddeus Diggs formerly belonging to the 1st U.S.C.C. and requesting you to deliver them if possible. Please inform me if the letters were delivered as nothing has yet been heard from them. It is believed that Ellis was shot in Portsmouth last year, and left a wife there
