Officers and Agents of the Bureau in this State will make every exertion to discover and arrest James Smith (white), charged with the murder of Emmanuel Butt freedmen on the 13th inst. near Great Bridge Norfolk Co. Va. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the accused, which thus far has not been effected. 

James Smith is a young man five feet seven inches in height,

weighs 140 lbs. thick lips, red hair, one eye, walks stiff, with head little on one side, slim build, wears grey clothing, and is on the whole a bad looking man. He was last seen in his brothers store near Great Bridge Norfolk Co. Va. has friends in Newbern N. Ca.

If arrested, the accused will be held until further orders, and report immediately made to these Hd. Quarters. Requisition for Military aid will be made if found necessary upon U.S. Military officers not connected with the Bureau.
