Major,
In reply to communication of Lieut. Ed. Murphy dated April 2nd forwarded by you April 10th relative to claims against Capt. O. Brown A.Q.M. and others. I am directed by the Asst. Comr. to make the following reply.

Moses Mitchell - states that he was employed by Capt. O. Brown, A.Q.M. at Norfolk City from May 7th 1864 to August 7th 1865 at $20. per month and that he has received no pay.

The name of Moses Mitchell does not appear on the rolls of Capt. O. Brown (now Genl. O. Brown, Asst. Commissioner) for any of the time claimed - neither did Capt. Brown pay any of his laborers $20 per month.

His name also does not appear on the Rolls of Captain A.S. Flagg, Captain Brown's successor.

Under whose immediate direction did this man work?

Julius Harrison - states that he was employed by Capt. O. Brown to work at Saw Mill on Taylor's Farm from August 10th 1864 to August 10th 1865, at 10 Dollars per month and that he received 20 Dollars for the whole time.

The total amount of pay due this man during the time he was employed by Capt. Brown appears to be $89.33/100 - of this amount $35.47/100 was stopped for extra rations issued to himself or his family. - His receipts show that he received $47.86/100 cash from Capt. Brown - Six Dollars due him on June 18th 1865, was transferred to Capt. A.S. Flagg, A.Q.M. Capt. Brown's successor.

He appears by Capt. Flagg's cash papers to have been paid for the rest of the time he claims. -

Raphael Brown - states that he was employed at Saw Mill on Taylor Farm from May 1st 1864 to November 30th 1865 - at $10 per month an that he received but $50. for the whole time.
