Your favor of 23rd inst. is received - Your will be retained as a Civilian Agent - The rate of pay cannot be decided upon until the action of Congress regarding a bill relating to this Bureau, now before it, is known. -

The bill above alluded to, will continue your pay as a Civilian Agent, at the same rate as your pay and allowances in the Army.

Will you remain in the service of this Bureau, as a Civilian Agent after your muster-out Jan'y 1st 1868.

The rate of pay, for Civilian Agents cannot be fixed until the action of Congress, upon an amendment of the present Bureau law, which is now before it, is known.- The amendment referred to, provided for the continuance, after your muster-out, of your present pay and allowances.
