Major,
Your favor of 24th inst, relative to Caroline Smith (cold.) is received. As the answer she gave to the question in my letter of the 16th inst. does not correspond. You will please ascertain quietly from her, whether she knows any of the parties named in the answer she was expected to give if she was the mother of the children alluded to.

Respectfully

Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of yours of the 24th inst inquiring how many copies of an enclosed

blank form for S.A. Comrs. Reports on Education will be required at these Head Quarters.

If, as would be inferred from the heading of the form, it is to be used monthly, five hundred copies will be required . On the other hand, if it is a special report, as would be inferred from the nature of the information called for, one hundred and fifty (150) copies will be sufficient. With the exception of some five or six, the questions call for facts of such a nature, that there would be no material change for a period of several month. To give the information called for will require a thorough canvas of the State, and it is doubtful if it would be possible to accomplish this work each month.

Very Respectfully,
Your Obt. Servt.
O Brown
