From Report dated July 31st 1868.
"Only last Saturday a patrol, such as haunted the homes of colored people before and during the war, seized a colored man in the public Road, because he had 1½ bush. corn, and took the corn from him. This was without warrant."

From Report dated August 31st 1868.
"The patrol, which I mentioned in my last report, are still travelling through this Division, a colored man was brought in to-day by a party of them - The names were given subsequently in endorsement as follows, viz: John Fortune, is the name of the colored man arrested. - James Connelly, Nathaniel Crow, Aubrey Banks, Peachy Banks and two brothers named Vaughn (given name not known), were the Patrol."

From Report dated October 31st 1868.
"In my report of July 21st, I made mention of a patrol arresting a colored man, for stealing corn, without a warrant of arrest. I was asked for the names of this patrol which I gave, and nothing has been done with the case.- The same thing has been repeated in this Division since then, and colored people have been disturbed, in the dead of night by this prowling patrol, to search their houses. They have not yet found any stolen property. The parties who form this patrol have not been brought to justice by the Civil Authorities and never will be."
