Dear Sir,
Your favor of the 6. inst. is received. There is already a good "Normal School" in Richmond, with better facilities and a better location than the "Bakery" for a school of that character. The schools at the Bakery should, if possible, be maintained, as at present, on the grade of primary and intermediate. With the certainty of the continuation of the Educational Department of the Bureau for some time to come, and the uncertainty with respect to new legislation, or new orders, which may be in force, it is to soon to make definite arrangements for the future of the Bakery property.- Charlottesville is an important point for the establishment of a Normal School, and if you are able to aid in that matter, your efforts will be well bestowed.

Sir,
I am directed by the Asst. Comr to inform you, that a report of F.M. Kimball, A.S.A.C. has been received in the case of Richard and Chas. Mason, nephews of Thomas Smith (col'd), from which it appears that the children were regularly bound to W.S. King on the 22. Nov. 1866, that six months subsequently to the date of indenture Mr King informed Mr. Kimball that the boys had run away and that, he expected they had been enticed away by their "kin folks" in Dinwiddie Co. or Petersburg, Va. but that he had not been able to find them. A few weeks since, Mr King informed Mr Kimball that he had got the boys back, that they had been with an uncle in Dinwiddie Co. and that rather than be so annoyed and troubled, he would give them up, if he could be released from the obligation and bond. Mr Kimball further reports, that he has proof that the boys were well treated and cared for while with Mr King.

In view of the willingness of Mr King to give up the children, application for them should be made by their uncle in writing to these Head Quarters when the case will receive attention.

Yours respty.
