Dear Betty:

Please excuse this little note being typewritten, but upon my return to New York two days ago, I found so many things to be done that it would mean postponing writing you for several days, should I wait to do so in longhand.

It was indeed a painful surprise to hear that you were in ill health, as I thought your stay in Santa Barara was merely a vacation, but from what Fred tells me there is no cause for worry, and I do hope that you will continue the steady improvement in your condition.

I found Kansas City as attractive as ever, but some of the spirit was missing, due to your absence. However, Fred was a most delightful host, trying and succeeding in making my stay in your charming home as pleasant as could be. I only hope that I wasn´t too much of a bother to him and that I wasn´t too much on his mind.

From what I understand, you are going to spend the Summer in the States - which means, to my distress, that I shan´t see you before the Autumn.

Do take good care of yourself and regain all your strength.
