Adjutant General
War Department,
Washington, D.C.

Dear Sir:

As per letter of General John J. Pershing dated May 1st, 1919, I was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal. I do not recall whether a certificate was given to me, but the "Grande chancellerie" of the Legion of Honor, Paris, in compliance with the regulations for the wearing of foreign decorations has requested me to show them, among others, the certificate granting me the right to wear the Distinguished Service Medal of the United States.

Not being able to locate the original certificate, should it have been handed to me, I would be exceedingly obliged to you if a copy of same could be forwarded to me.

Thanking you, I am

Yours very sincerely,

Germain Séligmann,
Captain of Reserve French Army,
Liaison Officer to the
1st U.S. Division, assigned
to said post in 1917.
