Dear Bob:

Pleased to receive your lines of October 29th.

Mrs. R: It is grand that you should get along with her, but don't feel over-confident, as it lessens your sales power.

We are going to have as pendant to her Monet, another Van Gogh — "The Olive Trees". In price, size and force, I think it will be ideal. You might tell her that you heard from me that we are going to receive this painting, so that at least she won't make any decisions — let's hope so anyway— before she has seen this new one.

ALICE ROULLIER: We all know that she is phlegmatic, but that isn't the point. I want her cooperation and furthermore, I need it. So please get after her again.

If Mrs. PATTERSON is in Chicago and you can get in touch introduction to her, call on her. She bought a Degas drawing from us [[underline]]through[[/underline]] Miss Roullier.

COHENS: No, decidedly I don't wish you to go and see them with a letter of introduction! They have had enough visits of that type. You have to meet them through your friends at a party so that you can get on friendly terms with them, and do not sneak to them about selling them any pictures. They are no more ready to buy Lady Lovat or the Metternich than I am to fly! Undoubtedly they might ultimately.

MAX EPSTEIN: If he has a photograph of his Watteau, I would love to have it. If it is the one I have in mind it comes from the Charpentier — the gallery, and has nothing to do with a private home in England, but, of course, it might be another one.

SHAPLEY: Am glad you saw him.

de VEYRAC: Just saw Mrs. Henry Field — V. is having a tremendous success in Chicago and it is essential that you see him. If he takes a liking to you I am convinced he might be of great help.

GEORGE F HARDING: By all means, try and get after him. I understand there is a young woman in the place who has a good deal to say.

The Speyer tapestry is not available any more — it has been sold in England.

I have nothing much of interest to tell you about things here. They are very slow.

With all good wishes for luck, Yours sincerely,

Mr. R. M. Levy,
Lake Shore Drive Hotel,
Chicago.
