Dear F-G:

MADELEINE: I am certainly upset to hear that this poor girl has been sent to a hospital. Will you please get in touch with Dr. Bloc who is looking after her and find out what the truth is, and (2) whether there is anything that I can do.

MRS STEINERT: I met her - she was very pleasant. She is sailing for Paris probably at the same time as these lines. I couldn't get over the fact that she is on very close terms with Martin Birnbaum, who has sold - she told me - certain things which belonged to her. I am just telling you this because, from her conversation (she asked me whether I could sell a painting by Macini for her) she is evidently in need of money and owns loads of things!!!

LEGION OF HONOR: I received a note from our cousin, Armand, who was aware of the papers which had been sent to me, but who tells me that his friend at the Cabinet du Ministre tells him that there is a tremendous competition and that there will be great difficulty in obtaining what I want.

I think, therefore, that you should make sure that you can count on BERGEROL and his friend. If not, it seems to me that it would be wise to talk to Bloc.

Mr. François Gérard Seligmann,
Paris.
