Dear Jim:

I am hastening to answer your letter of August 3rd., particularly because I gather from it that you have never received the note of thanks I sent you from the boat, to tell you how much I appreciated "Drums along the Mohawk". I do not recall whether I sent it to your home address or to your old business one, as I did not have the new one along with me. I am almost embarrassed to think that you could think me so very neglectful, the more so as the reading of this book gave me a great deal of enjoyment and I appreciated so much the kind thought that prompted your sending it to me.

I am thus wondering whether you ever received two short notes I sent you, the one addressed from London and the other I believe from St. Moritz, with newspaper clippings which at the time I thought would prove of interest to you. Neither of them was addressed to your new business address - if you ever think of it do let me know whether you ever received them.

Off and on I have heard from Mr. Liechti about purchases you made and which seemed to me quite satisfactory, but the Stock Market
