Germain Seligman, Esq.

I think your list is representative of the groups that are acting the best.

I bought for you today 100 shares of Woolworth at 49 1/2 plus the regular Stock exchange commission. This was a block of stock that E.B. Smith & Company and Kidder Peabody had bought from a large holder. The stock looked attractive to me, and as it was down from a high of 65 this year, I placed quite a substantial amount of it in my accounts.

As I was acting as a principal in this case and did not buy the stock on the New York Stock Exchange, would you drop me a line approving this purchase, in order that we may conform with the SEC regulations.

It seems to me that with the favorable outlook for the merchandising industry for the balance of the year, the stock should sell higher than current prices.

We are all well. I plan to spend an intermittent holiday in Bedford and I trust you are enjoying yourself in Switzerland. I was interested to have your comments on the situation in France.

I am just wondering whether you received "Drums Along the Mohawk" which I sent to you when you sailed. Some times the book store is negligent about getting the orders delivered at the proper time.

With best wishes, I am

Sincerely yours.

James A. Edgar.
