Mr. Duncan Phillips,
1600 - 21st Street,
Washington, D. C.

Dear Mr. Phillips:

I have only just returned to this country two days ago, and found your telegram of August 11th waiting for me at the office. It had not been forwarded, as the office is closed until the beginning of September.

I merely want to acknowledge receipt of your wire at this writing, and in the meantime am communicating with Paris immediately regarding the portrait of Debureau, to see what can be done about having it sent to this country.

As soon as I have had a definite confirmation from them I will communicate with you directly, or if the picture is here, I will bring it down to Washington myself and we can discuss the choice of the two pictures.

Please believe me to be

Yours very sincerely,

RML/JJ
